I Wish A Buck Was Still Silver
In the wake of the national election results, it is fitting that conservatives refocus our message and remind ourselves what we are all about. In this case, I think Merle Haggard does a pretty good job of asking and answering the most critical question that conservatives face.Labels: Conservatism, Music, Presidential Election

Geez, Dave. I don't know where to start. It's nice to reminisce and the song is pretty good, but its interesting that you use a nearly 30 year old song that in itself is reminiscing about pre-1960s America to talk about moving your party forward. It is this romanticized vision of the past that is holding your party back. You're fooling yourself if you think things were all good then. I'm sure that I don't have to tell you that just like now and times since then, there were various international conflicts as well as a slew of domestic issues going on at that time too. As we face and deal with the issues of the day, it is inevitable that new ones will emerge and facing those new problems with old ideas is a losing strategy.
You do know that Haggard was a staunch Hillary Clinton supporter, yes?
Hag was also very anti (Iraq) war and put out a song a couple of years ago that was an anti war song.
Merle Haggard is both a liberal and a Democrat.
Thanks for posting this. I love Haggard and love that song. In fact I get more liberal with each listen!
