A note on the PATRIOT Act
Just a note on the agreement in the House and Senate tonight to extend the PATRIOT Act for one month: Considering the present political circumstances, this was a very wise move. Better to extend the Act for a month (it expires February 3rd) and look for ways to protect our liberties than to extend the Act permanently without any serious contemplation about the permanent consequences of this law.I would be willing to accept a law in which the liberties of the American people are fully protected, and if this arrangement leads to that, this could turn out to be a positive compromise.
If the Act should expire in the end, at least liberty would survive.
