Oats,
David said he supports amnesty. Read this:

I read the story and never saw the word amnesty. Did I miss it? He said more or less controll borders, cut off benifits. I think many illegals would go home on their own if we did that and we wouldn't have to deport. They would deport on their own.
Stacey,
No, they wouldn't deport themselves. Most couldn't afford to and the rest would do without or do it on the Black Market. If they couldn't do it right away a Black Market addressing their needs would spring up.
What is fueling this migration? It can't be the wonderful jobs here America. Remember that most are jobs Americans don't want to do. When the Pilgrims came it was because of religous persacution, when the Irish came it was because of a patato famine and now we have Mexcans coming so ... WTF is going on in Mexico??? That's the one question I see no one addressing - from either side of this issue.

Steve;
What Stacey is talking about is a real phenomenon the INS calls "self-deportation." In those States with the foresight to pass good laws that essentially enforce the laws that the federales won't enforce (like local law enforcement checking for green cards/papers) the aliens do leave, and tell their friends not to go to the places where the law is enforced.
It has happened in Georgia.
Because the Democrats in the Tennessee legislature refuse to pass laws with teeth to do the same thing Georgia did, they've fled here. If other States would follow suit, illegals would come, well, legally (something I have no problem with).
Mexico: It is a society of castes (of sorts) like much of Latin America based on race-the darker you are, the lower on the class scale you are. Rather than solve their internal problems in Mexico, they ENCOURAGE their poor (and their criminal element) to come here-they don't have the burden.
And I should point out, this causes great drain on our resources...
David,
If what you say is true:
"Mexico: It is a society of castes (of sorts) like much of Latin America based on race-the darker you are, the lower on the class scale you are. Rather than solve their internal problems in Mexico, they ENCOURAGE their poor (and their criminal element) to come here-they don't have the burden" (and I think it is, I've heard it before) then why don't our stalwart leaders address that rather than cheerlead turning our borders into a cheap gringo version of the Iron Curtain?

The Rep,
From the article;
"I don't think the answer is deporting 12 million people, though."
So if you don't give them amnesty then what are you doing? If they remain illegal then they should remain subject to deportation. Anything that does not provide for deportation is amnesty for an illegal act.
Maybe you can explain what he said more clearly.
Steve;
If we do not control our border, they will continue to come here. We have enough trouble taking care of the people of our own nation..we should not be obligated to also care for those of Mexico when they cross our border illegally.
I am also awaiting the Rep's response.
