Bloggers On the Hill

I have been discussing the idea of Bloggers' Day On the Hill with Kara Watkins, House Republican Press Secretary.

Here is a tentative schedule:

Monday-- Bloggers can attend session at 5pm
Tuesday-- Bloggers are invited to coffee and donuts reception in the Leader's office; all reps would be invited to drop by that morning as well to meet and greet.

Tuesday, all day is committees, so I would be able to kind of direct/escort those bloggers around that wanted to visit certain committees; also, this would be a good time for bloggers to sit down and talk with individual reps in their offices.

A late March date seems to be the Leader's first choice. Do any bloggers have ideas of when a good date would be?

Dave -

I have no preference, but I will need lots of notice in order to clear my heavy court schedule.

Thanks for coordinating this!

Cheers,

Rob

Dave,
Interesting timing. I just emailed Kara the other day about speaking to the general assembly. Maybe you all could come up that day if it happens.
The Governor has proposed some legislation that isn't strong enough, but is at least proposing something that the Republicans have a stronger deal in mind. I want mandatory jail sentences for child molesters. Believe it or not, Tennessee is one of 10 States where there is not a mandatory jail sentence for a child molester.
I will be pushing for this very strongly, and it is something all bloggers could work on together.
We need a Jessica's law here. We need something!

There are a bunch of Jessica's-law and related bills introduced this session in Tennessee. I favor the bills that would have the state treat child rape like first-degree murder.

Donna,
I agree. Though unlike a child predator, a first degree murderer can be rehabilitated.
