Mumpower's Power Level
In The Examiner today, I discuss the silver lining behind Jason Mumpower's defeat in his effort to become Speaker of the Tennessee House of Representatives:If his "defeat" had a silver lining, it is that Mumpower appeared to be a changed man in at least some ways after the Speakership vote. Jason Mumpower was reminded, however, that he placed some of his trust and gave some of his thought-to-be-favors to certain people whose interests did not necessarily lie with a Republican majority, even though some of these members had run as Republicans. Not a few of these people really could care less if he were Speaker.
At least Jason Mumpower may become a better leader and legislator because of the adversities that he has had to go through, both inside and outside the House Republican Caucus.
