Gone-We Hope

Knox County Mayor Mike Ragsdale said last Wednesday that he would "not likely" seek future political office:

“You never want to totally close the door. In terms of jumping back into something, I don’t see that.”

He noted that he’s already served on the County Commission and he’s in his second term as mayor.

Mike Ragsdale had his eyes on the Governor's Mansion as late as a year and a half ago, but now says that he may never seek public office again. Many voices attempted to bring Mike Ragsdale's corrupt administration to light, while the News-Sentinel largely ignored that corruption. The paper attempted to brush aside Harbergate, and to this day when one looks at the special "Knox County Chaos" section on the News-Sentinel's website, the section on Tyler Harber is mysteriously bare.

Although I do not believe that Mike Ragsdale's being "cleared" in audits conducted by the State Attorney General of abusing public funds amounted to anything close to a serious investigation, at least the political pressure on Ragsdale is such that he will not be able to advance his own wounded political career any further. Many voices have demanded that Ragsdale be brought to justice over the last three years, and this weblog was among them. Combined with the voices of so many others, at least together those voices have helped to insure that one of Tennessee's most corrupt political figures will not take his graft, abuse of power, and corrupt mismanagement to Nashville, and that his stain on the Republican Party can be cleansed.

In the words of the Psalmist: "Let his days be few, and let another take his office."

Yet another great column pointing out the shortfall of one of our Tennessee politicians!

Can you as a Jefferson Countian wiegh in on the situation with your own Representative? your thoughts would be much appreciated!

Around the State Capitol it is common knowledge that, about 14 years ago, married man Frank Niceley had an extra-marital affair with a married woman in Sevier County. That affair produced a child, who is now a teenager.

That illicit pregnancy exposed the affair and led to a divorce for the woman. She had the child though and it goes by her last name.

Rep. Niceley has been known to say around the Capitol that: "My wife [Cindy] knew she married a stud when she picked me and that I would be hard to keep in the corral."

Now, in a previous column on Sen. Paul Stanley, you write: "When a person demonstrates such a glaring lack of mental capacity, they are not fit for public office."

The question for you: Does the same apply to your buddy Frank?!

If not, why not?!

I'd also like to hear your thoughts on the way that Nicely has been pushing for the construction of the inter-modal facility on lands that adjoin his family property in Mascot. Turns out that he has been pushing the state to expend funds that would directly benefit him and his family.

Truly a man of honor! Trying to do to us taxpayers what Paul Stanley was doing to interns!

Frank Niceley is in opposition to the inter-modal-virulently so, in fact. As is most of the county.

Interesting that you rise to defend Frank on the transportation issue....but...ignore the issue you have been typing so much about lately.

Why silent on Frank's marital infidelity when you have been so loquacious on Stanley's?

You are right that he's been against the inter-modal facility in Jeff County. Good for him! However, he has been pushing for the construction of the facility next to his property in Mascot where he stands to make a healthy profit. he also want to use state funds to build a road to help his property values. Very, very bad.
