Arlen's Out

LISTEN TO THE PODCAST HERE

Senator Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania leaves the Republican Party-finally. President Obama continues to declassify sensitive documents and placate America's enemies. Liberals on the internet and in the media become more vulgar and vile, reflecting both a new-found pomposity and a hidden fear of conservative resurgence.

Sorry Dave,
It's the vulgar and vile bigotry that hides in the dark corners of the conservative party that warrants such strong responses. With the liberal and moderate wings being ushered from party ranks, you can bet that the party of Lincoln will become increasingly more like a Klan rally. The unfortunate part for you is that the louder the voice of intolerance gets in your party, the more Americans will reject the conservative platform altogether.

Anyone who does not immediately and vehemently denounce the misogynistic, possibly-slanderous, and utterly vile and contemptible rant that Keith Olbermann and his gay "Village Voice" guest went on re: Carrie Prejean (Ms. California) on Thursday night...well, they have absolutely no business whatsoever blathering on about intolerance, closed-mindedness, or anything even remotely along those lines.

There's a wonderful piece of advice that I always remind myself of, when I am angry and have improper thoughts running through my brain...

It is absolutely impossible to defeat your opponent when you refuse to be better than them.

Perhaps you and your liberal friends should take this advice to heart.

David,
Until Conservatives leave Planet Wingnuttia and return to Earth there will be NO conservative resurgence. Less Americans identify themselves with the GOP than voted for Ross Perot in '92! Come on, a resurgence? It's not likely anytime soon.

Matt,
It's MISS California not "Ms" California. I thought the whole "falsie" schtick was funny. She had it coming. She nothing but an absolutely goregous, stunning beautiful, silcon filled airhead.

She had it coming? Why...because she chose to speak her mind and happens to have the same opinion re: same-sex marriage as PRESIDENT OBAMA? Or is it because she chose to become an activist on the issue?

If Olbermann or anyone else wants to go after her regarding the substance of her beliefs, I've got no problem with that whatsoever. But politics of personal destruction? Yeah, I've got a problem with someone on a prominent cable news show saying that Carrie Prejean used to be a man (among the other vile things he said about her).

She did absolutely NOTHING to deserve that type of attack.

Perhaps, after Perez Hilton called her a "dumb bitch", if she had retorted by using gay slurs or other language of personal attack...I would be more open to the idea that she "deserved" it. But she didn't do that.

SteveMule, you can play the self-righteous, "we-won" prick schtick now...but remember that the shoe not always be on that foot. And just because it's your political opponent that's being personally destroyed for simply exercising her Constitutional right -- in an effort to completely quash that dissent -- that doesn't mean that it won't ever happen to you or those who you share an ideology with.

As I said...you'll never truly win if you refuse to be better than your opponent...and it's quite obvious that you and your ilk refuse to be better.

In fact, it seems that liberals are set on playing the lowest-common demoninator. What class...and Americans are frickin' retarded for wanting this kind of leadership.

(By the way, what would your boy Obama say about Olbermann's Thursday night attack of Ms. Prejean? I don't think he'd be too happy about it...)

Matt,
You agree that your party is intolerant of groups of people, but its ok because the other guys said something mean about her? Hello? They weren't attacking women in general. Schoolyard taunting while bad is one thing, but bigotry is just downright evil. There's plenty of the former on both sides, but the latter is pretty much one sided. Let me see you denounce any of the bigoted statements made by Coulter/Faux News/Limbaugh/Lott/Helms/Duke etc. and maybe I would lend you some credibility on that subject. You stated before that you didn't hate yourself, but it is comments like these that indicate otherwise. BTW, what did it matter that the guest was gay?

I absolutely denounce any vile personal attacks that have been made by right-wing commentators. I never have been a fan of Coulter and listen to Rush only occasionally. And I certainly won't defend Fox News against cries of leaning (heavily) conservative...but I just laugh my posterior off at those on the left who refuse to admit that outfits such as CNN and MSNBC are just as bad. Look at MSNBC's evening line-up and tell me otherwise.

And I never once claimed that people on the right have views that you would deem "intolerant". But you know what? It's their right as Americans to hold those views. I'm reminded of one of the closing scenes of "An American President" where President Shepard uses a press conference to go on the offensive against his future election opponent. One of that monologue's key themes is that speech you may find most detestable is every bit as American as what may come out of your mouth...and if you want to claim yourself to be a true American, you better be able to embrace that idea.

That's why I just chuckle at how intolerant the supposedly-tolerant left is of points of view that they disagree with.

What Carrie Prejean said isn't "ok" because others are mean to her -- it's "ok" because it's her right as an American to hold that point of view. It's her right as an American to discuss that point of view in public fora if she's given that opportunity.

Even if her view is "intolerant", that doesn't excuse what Olbermann and the guy from the Village Voice did to her on Thursday night. What they did was hateful and unconscionable, and it clearly exposed Olbermann for that absolute hypocrite, journalist hack, and utter twit that he really is.

As long as neither side is interested in being better than the other, discourse in this country will continue to deteriorate...and this country as a whole will continue to deteriorate as the leaders we elect continue to get worse and worse and truth continues to get hidden within the noise of rubbish rhetoric.

Anyone (such as myself) who desires a better, forward-looking country (regardless of one's views of what it might look like) ought to be reviled by actions such as those by Olbermann -- just as they should be if it was Hannity, O'Reilly, Limbaugh, or anyone else doing it.

Ha! You want to protect people's free speech rights to incite hatred against whole groups of people based on creed, skin color, sexual orientation, etc., but only if they're not going to insult a beauty queen? Yeah, there's no contradiction there. Good luck, buddy. You can embrace that neo-Nazi stuff all you like. I'm not sure that Catholicism looks fondly on that though.

Nobody said anything about denying libbies free-speech rights.

But if idiots like Olbermann and Mustow are going to go on television and slander a young woman who did nothing more than exercise HER free speech rights...and if idiots and cowards are going to stand by idiots like Olbermann and Mustow...then you all better be prepared to be viewed as the vulgar, hateful, "politics of personal destruction" hypocrites that you really are.

Most prominent liberals are as tolerant and open-minded as I am atheist...i.e., not at all.

Give it a rest, Matt. You already showed your true colors. You're more concerned about name calling than the bigotry you espouse (even while dishing out both).

Titus 2:7-8
In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.

Anon> You don't know me, so don't pretend to know what I do or do not espouse. I have not made clear my preferences regarding same-sex marriages, so any claim by you to know that preference is a flat-out lie.

I don't "espouse bigotry"...but I do stand up for the First Amendment and EVERYTHING that means. And frankly, hiding behind "that's bigotry" in regards to trying to silence certain speech is as un-American as it gets.

The First Amendment doesn't guarantee the right of free speech to only those who are virtuous and "tolerant", nor does it discern between "right" and "wrong". It gives everyone equal heft to speak their mind -- no matter what that mind might think.

At least I don't hide behind cowardice. At least I stand behind my statements, no matter how they may be received. Why are you so afraid of your own words...your own hate?

All I have to say to you is this -- when the world becomes socially and ideologically cleansed, when everyone is exactly alike and has everything that everybody else has, when the thought police are right outside your (and everyone else's door), I hope you enjoy the life that world provides.

I can't imagine such a world to be anything but sad and pathetic..but to each his own, I guess.

Heh. If you're referring to the Holocaust, you might want to remember that Hitler's political leanings were leftist. He sure as hell wasn't a conservative.

You might want to take your foot out of your mouth. Or learn your history. Or both.

Sure, we can add revisitionist to the mix if you'd like. Nationalism, Nativism, Fascism, Xenophobia, etc. => all yours and your buddies...

You should know plenty about revisionist history.

You would probably do yourself good to realize that something won't become true simply by repeating it over and over. A lie is a lie, no matter how often liberals repeat it.

(And you may want to go take a look at some of Obama's "rallies" during his campaign...the truth doesn't stray far...)

Remember, it's neo-Nazis that are welcome in your ranks, not Dems. You are also the one protecting them and their rhetoric. If you want to be an Uncle Matt, then that's your decision. You'll still get gassed by your buddies along with everybody else. Have fun at the tea bag/Klan rallies in the meantime.

Hey, that's fine. I'll protect anyone and anyone's rhetoric -- even the cowardly tripe that flows from you. I don't care how much I disagree with it -- the First Amendment doesn't discriminate.

And I'll proudly hold that stance until the day I die (or until the day the First Amendment dies at the hands of idiots like yourself, whichever comes first).

Whomever you are, liberal or conservative, gay or straight, rich or poor, black or white...if you're not willing to stand for the rights of EVERY American to speak their mind -- even those you hate the most -- then you don't deserve those same rights yourself.

Oh I get it now. You'll die for everyone's free speech rights, as long as the "vile and personal attacks" are only ok for you and your KKKlan friends to make. Got it.

Reading isn't your strong suit, is it?

I never once said that people like Olbermann and Mustow don't have the right to do what they do, such as the rant last Thursday night.

I simply said they shouldn't, and I said that people should denounce it -- just like I said that anyone one the right who makes vile and personal attacks shouldn't do it and should also be denounced.

There's a huge gulf between "can" and "should".

But I wouldn't expect you to understand that. I must be talking over your head again.

Colossians 3:7-11
In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them. But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him: Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.

Matthew 22:36-40
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
