The best guitarist alive
Today's Saturday music special is a tribute to the man who I believe is probably the greatest electric and steel guitar player alive, not to mention that he sounds an awful lot like Ernest Tubb.Ladies and gentlemen, Junior Brown!
Now if you don't think that is some awesome pickin', you just ain't right!

Thanks for turning me on to him. His guitar playing in the top video is very much like Duane Eddy, (who is very much a live in Franklin, Tennessee) who used the bottom three strings a lot for that "twang" sound. Tuning and bending the strings while playing is also an old rock trick.
Is this guy alt.country like Lyle or Earle, or traditional? Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference.
Still, everyone I named stole their style from Robert Johnson, who combined the delta blues and country like no one else did before him or has since.

Wow, you've not heard Junior before? Welcome to the fan club!
Some classify Junior as alt country, some classify him as traditional, I would classify him as both and then some. He has influences all over the spectrum-traditional country, classic rock, classic R&B, you name it.
Right now he's on tour with Bob Dylan-but he has been a headliner in his own right...I think he is straightaway awesome.
I am sooooooooooooo glad you posted these videos. I consider myself up on all genres of music, and I should have known about this man!
Now it's time for me to do some homework.
Is there a specific cd you recommend for a neophyte Junior student/listener?
Thanks :)
Sharon;
For starters, I would recommend Jr.s 1993 CD Guit With It, his 1996 release Semi Crazy, Junior High (1995), and Junior's 2005 Greatest Hits CD (which I do not have).
Another one I don't have but have heard is outstanding is Jr.'s live album recorded at the Continental Club in Austin in 2005
